Bio
Justin Moniz is an singer, actor, and musician whose performance credits include Carnegie Hall, The Bushnell Center for Performing Arts, and Allentown Symphony Hall among some of the greatest performance halls across the continental northeast. Justin started performing at the age of five, inspired by his music teachers and has been performing ever since.
Moniz has starred in over 40 productions including appearances at many regional and off-broadway venues. Most recently, he was acknowledged for his performance in the critically acclaimed, L.I. Premiere of Little Women. Justin has been employed by the Broadhollow Theatre Company, CM Performing Arts Center, Airport Playhouse, Over the Rainbow Productions, and the USDAN Center for the Creative and Performing Arts.
In past summers, Justin has organized, musically directed and starred in Broadway¢s Best, a cabaret performance benefiting both Broadway Cares (BCEFA) and The Carol Baldwin Foundation which received raving reviews.
Justin has studied both the genres of opera and musical theatre with Margaret Murphy, Robert Gallagher, and Elliot Bean, former vocal coach of Idina Menzel. He has also worked with Melody Racine from the University of Michigan. Additionally, Justin has sang with the 2007 MENC All-Eastern Mixed Choir as well as the 2005 & 2006 NYSSMA All-State Mixed Choirs of New York State. Moniz was also given the opportunity to sing with the New York Grand Opera Chorus at Carnegie Hall, having been the one of the youngest performers in the choir¢s history.
Justin is also an accomplished instrumentalist. He was the former principal saxophonist in the Aaron Copland School of Music Undergraduate Wind Ensemble at CUNY Queens and the 2004 & 2005 USSBA Honors Concert Bands.
This April, Justin premiered in The Highwayman,with lyrics by Garth Bardsley and music by Ben Parry. The piece chronicled the double life of Charles LeGrand as portrayed by Moniz: by day master swordsman and tutor to the children of the rich and by night, the notorious, but much admired, Gentleman Highwayman. Publicity for the production involved an on-air performance with Moniz on NCPR, North Country Public Radio.
Moniz is an sophomore undergraduate student at The Crane School of Music pursuing two B.M. degrees with Honors in Vocal Performance and Music Education, with a minor in Speech Communication. He is a student in the studio of Dr. Jill Pearon. Additionally, he is the winner of the 2008 NATS Eastern Regional Division Vocal Competition for the upper collegiate division of musical theatre.
Justin is a member of Phi Eta Sigma, the national collegiate honor society and the fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha. Currently, he serves as President for the American Choral Directors' Association (ACDA) and as Public Relations Representative and tour guide for the Crane Student Association. Justin is also a member of SUNY Potsdam's honors program.
